New Member Orientation
Kappa Alpha Theta chapters initiate their new members between 4-6 weeks after Bid Day. This program covers the following topics:
- Zero-tolerance hazing policy and risk management
- Theta history
- Personal excellence
- Ritual appreciation
In addition to these topics, Theta new members also complete Alcohol Skills Training Program (ASTP). Kappa Alpha Theta was the first women's fraternity to endorse and require that all members complete online alcohol education. ASTP is unlike most alcohol education programs because it acknowledges that college students may choose to drink. Rather than only trying to impose abstinence, it recognizes that any steps taken towards risk reduction are steps in the right direction. Through ASTP, Kappa Alpha Theta joins other interfraternal organizations in offering a program that focuses on risk management and educating our members through conversation and educational programming. I am so excited to meet you all and share with you all of the unique things that make Kappa Alpha Theta’s sisterhood so special! Recruitment may seem scary and stressful now, but I promise it’s all worth it when you receive your bid and run out to meet all your new sisters! Theta has been a major piece of my Bucknell experience, not only because of the amazing, genuine women I’ve become best friends with, but also because of all the opportunities a Theta sisterhood as presented me with on campus and in the future. I’m so thankful that I thought Theta, and I hope you do too! No matter what, I hope you find your perfect home this fall!
Cara English (Chief Recruitment Officer)
We can’t wait to meet you during recruitment! Theta is home to many fabulous, hard-working and unique women who are passionate about Theta, but also so many other things on campus. Here in Theta you will find engineers, dancers, comedians, athletes and everything in between. As your New Member Director, I will be your point person for any and all questions you have about Theta. I will also make sure that you make a smooth transition into sorority life and get to know all of your Theta sisters. Kappa Alpha Theta has been more perfect for me than I could have ever thought possible and I wish for you the same experience with any sorority you join. In Theta especially, the girls surrounding you become like family. I thought Theta and have never looked back. Try to enjoy the recruitment process and no matter how stressful it can seem, it will all work out in the end!
